[Song Review] Timeless time / Thankful ~Kiseki no Ashita e~ by Mami Kawada

Timeless time was used as an opening theme for the eroge Nanatsu no Fushigi no Owaru Toki, with Thankful ~Kiseki no Ashita e~ as the ending theme. The eroge along with the songs was released on December 22, 2011.

Timeless time
Lyrics and Vocals: Mami Kawada
Composition and Arrangement: Tomoyuki Nakazawa

Timeless time offers a refreshing arrangement for a mid-tempo ballad. It may sound like any other song I've Sound has come up with in the past, but songs like this and Initiative, for example, sure do a good job of bringing us back to the earlier days. It may not necessarily be better than such older songs but hey, these modernized songs are nice too.

The core of the song is on its heartfelt emotions conveyed of course, by both vocals and instrumentals. The vocals were soft, calm and warming making this song a nice break from singles heavily infused with rock and techno elements. Kawada Mami's eroge themes have always been like that, and it's a good thing actually. Songs that show off her gentler side while her singles have shown the opposite.

The song style's definitely a unique addition to Mami's eroge themes discography. Refreshing, heart-warming. Timeless time may well be a timeless I've song in the future.

Thankful ~Kiseki no Ashita e~
Lyrics and Vocals: Mami Kawada
Composition and Arrangement: Maiko Iuchi

And we have a true-blooded ballad with Thankful ~Kiseki no Ashita e~. Kawada Mami's ballad songs are mostly, if not all, great and very much welcome. Note that her roots have been into ballads with her first album SEED, making Mami an artist proficient in both rock and ballad songs.

Less emphasis on beats and synths make this song more into the emotional side, unlike her more popular ballads set on a noisier background such as Akai Namida and All in good time.

Thankful ~Kiseki no Ashita e~ has been Mami's first ballad after a long while and it did not disappoint. Those tear-jerking tunes were surely missed. Iuchi Maiko's song production aren't the best but the song turned out to be good anyway.

This song is a nice ballad beating out other ballads sang by Mami. Personally, though, I think My friend (from Nanoha StrikerS Soundstage X) is still her best ballad by far. Anyway, I'm thankful that Thankful ~Kiseki no Ashita e~ came into being.

Rating: 7.4/10

Kawada Mami releases only one or two eroge themes a year, quite few songs indeed, but when she does, they're great. Timeless time and Thankful ~Kiseki no Ashita e~ are not exceptions. They're actually reminiscent of her previous etude eroge OP/ED themes For our days and return to that place. Good old times.
